Digital Photo
Lesson overview:
This is a cross-curricular unit with geometry. In geometry students studied symmetry and applied it to creating a kaleidoscope. In art class the students learned about the element of balance and applied it to the lesson. For the assignment, students had to take a picture of nature and create an artwork using mathematical techniques.
Essential questions:
-What is balance?
-What is symmetry?
-How can symmetry be created in digital photography?
-How can you create a kaleidoscope image using photoshop?
-How can math techniques be used to create art?
Objectives:
1) Through a demonstration of creating a kaleidoscope on Photoshop, students will successfully explain the steps necessary to creating a kaleidoscope using tools.
2) Given a demonstration on creating a kaleidoscope on Photoshop, students will artistically produce a kaleidoscope image using one digital photo.

The students take a picture of something beautiful seen in nature.
After, the students take the image and turn it into a kaleidoscope design using symmetry and balance.
